There is a place that I call home
A place I always will come from
A place that made me who I am
A place that made me feel like I belong
It’s a line that can never be broken
This place sustained me in my youth, shaped the man I hoped to be
From my mother’s womb to the delivery suite
I’m someone that my father was to me
This is the way we are, this is the way it will be
Some places are forever lost, innocence , virginity
Thrown away before their time, are the faces I will never see again
To the gulf and heaven sent
Who would give it all up for their country? And a flag that burns the sky
As I walk these streets within, I see winds of change are blowing in me
Cut me and I will bleed
This is the way we are, this is the way it will be
I’m standing where I’ve stood before and I’ll be back again I’m sure
If not in this body then in spirit, look for me in the eyes of a child
Until the day I die
This is the way we are, this is the way it will be
The bricks and mortar of this life. The fabric of society
Sometimes I see it in your eyes, sometimes in your smile
I can do without the things I want but I can’t do without the things I need
This is the way we are, this is the way it will be
This is the place that I call home
The place I always will come from
The place that made me who I am
This place that made me feel like I belong
This is the way we are, this is the way it will be
