Sahara Rocks – Mission Accomplished – A Personal Message from Mike Peters

Sahara Rocks – Mission Accomplished – A Personal Message from Mike Peters

I’m writing to thank everyone who has supported the Love Hope Strength – Sahara Rocks Trek and / or supported the fund raising effort through my wife – Jules’ personal Just Giving page.

Thanks to pledges from corporate donors supporting some of the trek team, along with donations from many of you reading this message and matched funding from the Beauchamp Family Foundation, the Sahara Rocks group will have smashed £100,000 today. An incredible achievement by a brilliant group of people who have shown real tenacity over the past few days as they’ve trekked through the searing heat of desert.

Tonight, the team are all in Marrakesh and from the sound of the excited phone call I’ve just received from Jules, they are having a ball, celebrating and reflecting on their collective endeavour of the past week. I’ve heard some great stories about the tireless efforts of the musicians on the trek and I have to admit to being envious that I wasn’t there in person……. next time though!!! It certainly can’t have been easy for everyone being away from home and  loved ones while facing up to the challenges of the desert and the African environment itself.

I’m sure there will be some amazing posts, stories, photos and moving images to follow once everyone gets back to where they belong and can start sharing in earnest, I can’t wait to read and hear all about it.

On Friday I received another infusion of Immunoglobulin Therapy and with each passing week I am feeling stronger and more like myself. In fact, these past couple of weeks have flown by, and there has been no sign of the negative reactions I was experiencing just one short month ago. The drugs are working!

My focus is now lasering in on The Gathering, and I am dedicating myself to making it a spectacular event. I’m really excited about Jules coming home next week so that we can really ramp up all the plans and preparation that goes into making The Gathering unique. We have been doing it for thirty years and we want to make Gathering 30 the best Gathering ever!

So, see you there on January 27th everyone, and if you see anyone in a Sahara Rocks / Desert Camel T-Shirt, then please take a second to shake their hand, as their efforts this past week will make a massive difference for people like me who are living with cancer!

Forwards

Love Hope Strength (LHS) helps save and change lives one concert, one step, one helping hand at a time through working in partnership with cancer care specialists across the globe and offering support when families affected by cancer need it most. The money we raise through Sahara Rocks will help LHS fund new equipment and special projects in cancer centres, treatment units and community services in the UK and the USA. LHS will also help people affected by cancer across the globe through its partnerships with local hospitals and international organisations including the Muhimbili National Hospital in Tanzania, blood cancer charity DKMS, the World Cancer Research Fund and the Union for International Cancer Control.

Every £1 or $1 given to my fundraising will be matched, £ for £, $ for $ by the wonderful Beauchamp Family Foundation. You can still give to LHS UK through this page, or give through tax effectively in the USA through our secure US website, here.

It will only take a couple of minutes, but could help make the world of difference for those people affected by cancer who will benefit from your generosity.

Thank you
