Dirty South – London

Joe Strummer together with Pablo Cook formed The Mescaleros in the late 90’s.

Pablo Cook and Joe Strummer co-wrote the band’s debut single Yalla Yalla, the debut album “Rock, Art and the X-ray Style” which was produced by Antony Genn was released to much praise from media and fans alike being described in one journo as “Sandinista’s worthy successor.”

With the band now taking shape including Smiley on drums they toured UK, Europe, U.S.A, Japan, Australia, New Zealand playing to packed out audiences a rich mixture of Joe’s new world music and great Clash classics.
“The Mescaleros are playing like they’ve got a gun to their collective heads – guitars like artillery fire, drums like a creeping barrage: this is combat rock. A blistering assault of musical napalm levelling everything in its path.”
Uncut magazine.

They also supported The Who on their UK Tour, where they played the new tracks which were to form perhaps their finest work: the 2nd album “Global A Go-Go.” whose tracks including “Mondo Bongo” “Johnny Appleseed” & “Minstrel Boy” have featured in both top box-office films and major U.S TV shows including, Mr & Mrs Smith, Black Hawk Down, John from Cincinnati

The band continued their extensive world touring and just as work was to start on their 3rd album, Joe Strummer sadly passed away in December 2002 aged just 50.

A legend to a whole generation across the world had died, but that same generation and now other younger generations want again to hear that great music that got Joe back on stage and making great albums after nearly a decade away.

To celebrate the music of Joe Strummer Mescaleros Pablo Cook and Smiley, together with Simple Mind’s Derek Forbes the Voice of the Alarm, Mike Peters plus Steve Harris (Gary Numan) and Pascal Smith are due to hit Canada in March after several gigs in Europe and planned tours of South America later in 2009.
Playing The Mescaleros greats & the extensive back catalogue of Clash Classics will once more ensure the name Joe Strummer lives on.

Also special guests, Ray Gange (Rude Boy/The Clash movie) as DJ & Pat Gilbert (Passion is a Fashion: The Real Story of The Clash)
